Refuse to Regain: 12 Tough Rules to Maintain the Body You've Earned [Hardcover]Smart and sophisticated, Refuse to Regain is a well written and well researched book that is a must read for anyone serious about being healthy. Although the book is geared primarily to people who are struggling to maintain weight loss, it is actually a fascinating read that would be valuable to anyone, as it lays out the basic principles for how to eat healthily and explains why so many Americans are overweight.Dr. Berkeley manages to present state of the art medical research in a way that is easy to grasp and her point of view is very convincing. Unlike other books about diet and lifestyle, this one is actually a good read! And there really are not any other books out there that address the specific question of what to do after you've lost weight to keep off the pounds. Kudos to Dr. Berkeley!

Food for Life: How the New Four Food Groups Can Save Your LifeI have purchased over a dozen copies of this book for my family and friends, and finally browsed the reviews today and was shocked to see any negative feedback. So for those considering the book, remember the negative reviews were written by meat-lovers that in no way plan to give it up.

I've read at least twenty or so nutrition books and this is my favorite of them all. It's simple to read, easy to understand, and very complete. It encourages a vegeterian diet for the sole purpose of having a healthy life, rather than giving all the statisitics on animal cruelty.

It deconstructs all the myths (i.e. people need tons of protein, and vegetarians do not get enough iron) and gives tons of yummy recipes in addition to informing you of all the nutritional benefits of a plant-based diet.

It reinforces the fact that doctors do not fix you until you are broken. My brother is in med school and I asked him how many nutrition classes he was required to take..... the answer was none. Why not learn how to prevent diseases rather than fix them afterwards? Why eat a meat-based diet, take your cholesterol pill and destroy your liver, when you can avoid eating cholesterol at all? Why eat excessive simple carbohydrates and sugars and rely on an insulin shot every day?

I've bought copies for nearly every member in my family over the past three years, but sadly they don't bother reading it until they are required to take insulin, or they find a lump in their breast, or they find their cholesterol is off the charts. I believe you have a duty to your loved ones to keep your body healthy so you can be here for them as long as possible, and this book can show you how. For more info, look into pcrm.org

Honest Nutrition: A Descent Into The Ocean Of Nutritional Prattle, And Coming Up For AirMany who write on the subject of nutrition and health are intelligent, educated and knowledgeable. Honest Nutrition by Ira Edwards is noteworthy because the author writes as a health consumer; he does not have a health product or service to promote. To his credit, Edwards has no bias for or against conventional medicine, alternative medicine or herbal healing. He lays out the benefits, problems and costs of various nutritional, herbal and medical modalities with careful attention to biochemical realities.

Over several decades, Edwards has investigated the authenticity of many scientific studies that are commonly accepted in health and medical practice. His education and professional experience, in biochemistry and in scientific methodology, well qualify him to see through a fraudulent veneer where it exists. Among innumerable subjects, his findings on cholesterol are important to anyone interested in maintaining good health.

Although retired, Edwards has stayed current with scientific discovery. The book is abundantly filled with timely, relevant information. For me, it has been a marvelous resource, dropped into my hands at an appropriate time to help with important (and beneficial) health decisions.

Honest Nutrition is an attempt to do what textbooks and hundreds of diet books do not. Nutrition textbooks do not tell you that this science is in its infancy, nor how many "scientific" claims are open to question, based on faulty research or simple hunches. A major factor in arterial disease is viscous blood, resulting in part from a lack of omega-3 fat. Cholesterol lowering does not help.3. Some heart attacks may be due to hormonal effects, involving the hormone ouabain, and preventable with an extract of the herb strophanthus. 4. Many, or most North Americans suffer serious lack of nutrients: vitamin D, magnesium, and plant nutrients.

The author challenges the medical establishment to examine their doctrines and learn how to help people suffering from nutritional diseases.Many technical terms are included. The non-scientific reader is asked to skip over these, to gain a useful knowledge of nutrition.

The No Sweat Exercise Plan: Lose Weight, Get Healthy, and Live LongerWhy am I writing this review?Because I felt it would be a disservice to anyone out there who was looking for a great exercise plan if I didn't rave out Dr. Simon's book. I felt compelled to let everyone know about this wonderful book that has changed my life.I was ecstatic when a close friend told me about Dr. Simon's book.I had no idea that such a book existed and I was anxious to get my hands on it.Somehow, with two children, I found the time to read the book.With two very young children, I had absolutely no time to go to the gym.I was feeling sluggish and even guilty for not exercising.After reading his book, I realized there were so many other options I was not aware of.Dr. Simon's book opened my eyes to a whole world of fitness programs that would be most beneficial to my health and well being. I learned about MY body and MY personal health needs and was able to create an exercise plan that fit into my schedule.I have even involved my four year old in some of my activities.I want to suggest to everyone to check out the section on stretching.I can't go a day without doing each and every one one of Dr. Simon's ten basic stretching exercises. They leave me feeling rejuvenated and flexible!They are simple and quick, yet highly effective.

I also have a better understanding of proper nutrition and what diet works best for me.I have made some serious changes to my eating habits, thanks to Dr. Simon. I follow the TLC diet and can say that it has made a huge difference in how I feel. I am a healthier person now and will continue to be for years and years. My life has taken a turn for the better since reading this book!!

Everything You Need To Know About Fat Loss [Paperback]If you ever wondered why that low carb diet eventually stopped working or why that 1,000 calorie a day diet does not work for very long, this is the book for you.

Understanding why your body chemistry does what it does is a revelation.

All these diet books just lead you on.Diets do not work long term.You have to eat every 3 hours, eat adequate protein and not too much carbs to lose weight.

Weight lifting is more effective for weight loss than aerobics!

Low carb diets shut down your thyroid long term.Many people stay on these things, get more irritable by the day and do not lose weight.

I enjoyed the scientific explanation of thermogenesis.I won't ever be hoodwinked again.

Feed your body right, lift weights.I hope the word spreads..

The only downside of this book is the author's complete unawareness of the word "affect".He uses the word "effect" throughout the book.It drove me nuts!

He also does not know about you're vs. your.I guess it is not his job to know grammar.The editor of the book should have read it instead of just doing a spellcheck.

Otherwise, a very good book.
