It's recommended that a person who eats 2,200 calories a day should consume a maximum amount of 12 teaspoons of added sugar a day, which is a little more then a can of soda! If you are a soda drinker, cutting back would be a quick way to lose a lot of empty calories. Certain foods such as sweets and fats sends out a metabolic signal that tells the brain to shut off the stress response, which in turn reduces the symptoms of stress. This is why emotional eating can become a vicious cycle so easily. A craving lasts for about 15 seconds. If you can make it without diving head first into the chip or cookie bag you have gotten past the hard part. It can be as simple as shifting your focus and getting busy!
