Get Thin, Stay Thin: A Biblical Approach to Food, Eating, and Weight Management [Mass Market Paperback] Review

Get Thin, Stay Thin: A Biblical Approach to Food, Eating, and Weight Management [Mass Market Paperback]This book can change your life.It is more a Bible study/Self-Help guide that causes us to gently examine - hopefully with God's help - why we eat past full...why we hide in our weight, what might be at the root of our self-destructive behavior, and then to gracefully, gently correct it.This isn't a "diet" book. It's not about calories, exercise, and fat counting. It's a book for those of us who are beyond that. We've done all the programs, starved, binged, hated on ourselves, etc.Now we need more. It's probably not a substitute for a counselor, and it's not a quick fix, but boy it's an awesome book, well-written, compassionate, and kind.If you are looking for a boot camp method to lose weight, this isn't it.If you are bruised, broken, and about to resign yourself to a lifetime of being fat, this is for you.

Product Description:
Get Thin, Stay Thin addresses the real reason we struggle with eating problems: we try to use food to satisfy our souls. As the Hallidays explain, we all crave intimacy, security, and acceptance. When these needs are not met, we often turn to substitutes such as food. The Hallidays go beyond trendy, short-term weight-control plans and urge readers to allow God to satisfy their deepest hungers. Anyone who has struggled with weight loss will benefit from this honest and thorough look at getting beyond the guilt and the ups and downs of yo-yo dieting.

The Weight of Grace: Experience the Freedom from Overeating that You Already Have (Paperback) Review

The Weight of Grace: Experience the Freedom from Overeating that You Already HaveI completed this study in the fall of 2008.For me it was the first time I've experienced God's grace in the matter of my weight.I've been so steeped in self condemnation and legalism that I never sought God or believed that He would be willing to work in this area of my life.It felt like my choices = my consequences and all I had to do was get myself under control - which should be easy enough?
But...thru this study I learned that I had many false beliefs about God and many motivations for my eating that I can to prayerfully surrender to God - in Romans it says that 'they exchanged the truth of God for a lie' - but...I can exchange the lies I've believed for the truth of God.Now I can honestly say that my focus has shifted from myself and my failings to God and compassion toward me and His Holy Spirit at work in me.
I highly recommend this book to any woman who struggles with emotional eating - not just weight issues - to be set free from the legalism of dieting and conforming to the cultural standard - and be the woman God created you to be.

Product Description:
When you make the decision to lose weight, it can often be a struggle. As Christian women, we know that the word of God is our very present help in time of need. Patricia Thomas' husband brought her a journal as she began her weight loss journey, and she leaned on the word of God to help her successfully lose weight. A Christian Woman's Journal to Weight Loss: A Guide to Losing Weight with the Word can help you, too. In a week-by-week format, this book includes the 52 scriptures that Patricia relied on and her reflections on how those scriptures helped her face her weight loss challenges. The book follows each scripture with a journaling prompt that the reader can use to help her focus that scripture on her weight loss challenges and record her own reflections. God has a plan for our lives, and as women we have to remember that it is not to give of ourselves until we have just given out. We must make time to take care of the temple that we have been given, so that we can live and live abundantly.
