Confessions of a Carb Queen: A Memoir [Bargain Price] (Paperback) Review

Confessions of a Carb Queen: A Memoir [Bargain Price]I tore into this book on Christmas Eve, read it cover-to-cover, and was donein time for the traditional Christmas dinner of Chinese take-out!This is the most comforting, inspirational book I've read in a while. If you struggle with your weight and have a book shelf like mine, I doubt you'll find anything glaringly new as far as diet and exercise, but you'll cheer with and for Susan Blech as she courageously changes her world in order to save her life.If you ever lay in bed and reach a near-panic state wondering what would happen if you were caught in a fire, and you didn't have time to get dressed, and you needed clothes, and none of your neighbors were even close to your size....then this is the book for you! This book has renewed my hope that by continuing to search for what's really behind my food obsession, I can, one day, be successful.Just knowing you're not alone makes it a little bit easier to put your feet on the floor and trudge through for another day. Thanks, Susan, for making my ridiculous thoughts and feelings, seem almost normal!

Finally Thin!: How I Lost More Than 200 Pounds and Kept Them Off--and How You Can, Too [Hardcover] Review

Finally Thin: How I Lost More Than 200 Pounds and Kept Them Off--and How You Can, Too [Hardcover]I first heard of Kim Bensen on the Weight Watchers community message boards. She's marketed her own low calorie bagels and I was searching for her website for this information.I found much more than bagels. I've never met her in person, but I found that Kim is helpful and kind to those who email her.I found out about this book on her website and couldn't wait to read it...got it the first day it was avail and couldn't lay it down until I was finished.

Her book is brutally honest and I applaud her for speaking so frankly about her struggles with dieting and obesity. It's the kind of book that will inspire you to keeping going, or inspire you to get started on a life changing plan for eating if you're struggling or have given up.

At some points in the book I was in tears, and at others, laughing. Her story is heartbreaking but ends in a final triumph. Her favorite line seems to be "now it's your turn".She tries to inspire others to achieve the seemingly impossible. She lost 212 lbs, kept it off and is now a very successful Weight Watchers leader.

A VERY good book for anyone, but especially those of us who need to lose weight.I HIGHLY recommend it.Also, she includes recipes.A bonus to the book!

Product Description:

The ultimate companion to any diet-featuring ten steps that will give you the information and motivation to achieve your own success on any weight-loss plan.

Kim Bensen knows about weight loss. And weight gain. For decades, she tried every diet there was, but nothing seemed to work - for long anyway - and she yo-yoed her way to 350 pounds. But she never gave up and in 2001, despite years of heartbreak and discouragement, Kim tried again. This time was different and the results were phenomenal: 212 pounds lost forever, fourteen dress sizes, four ring sizes, one and a half shoe sizes, and 200 points of cholesterol gone for good! In the end, Kim not only changed her health and size, but also her career. The clamor of "How did you do it?" by desperately struggling individuals as well as the national media motivated her to sit down and pen into words what she had put into action.

In Finally Thin!, Kim Bensen recounts her own success story and then breaks down her success into a ten-step system, showing readers exactly how she accomplished her weight-loss goal. From choosing the right diet for your needs to setting realistic goals, finding support, eating out, recovering from a slipup, the keys to maintenance, and even 75 recipes, this book covers it all in an upbeat, inspirational, and approachable tone. A must-have for anyone trying to lose weight, Finally Thin! will help dieters break free of the yo-yo cycle and achieve their ultimate goal-once and for all.

Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir [Paperback] Review

Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir [Paperback]I'm a sucker for a good before and after tale. Lucky for me, this memoir is so much more. Fulda chronicles her amazing 186+ weight loss, more than half of her starting weight. But she does more than just show us her weight loss; she describes her relationship with her body and with her daily habits with such wit and humor that I laughed out loud dozens of times. The pace is quick, and the content is interesting (no daily diet plans or lists of gym workouts here).

I also like Fulda's attitude. She doesn't pretend to be a weight loss guru, and she never disrespects herself and her body. Everyone knows how to lose weight...it's her dedication that makes her tale amazing. Also, I enjoy her focus on becoming athletic rather than getting thin (especially refreshing in today's "Get Skinny!" social climate.) She is a very positive person, even when dealing with ugly plus-size clothes, negative blog comments, or the inevitable plateaus.

This is a great, inspirational read, and Fulda is a delightful writer. Reading it made my wait at the DMV actually enjoyable; I only wish the book could have lasted longer!

Product Description:
After undergoing gall bladder surgery at age twenty-three, Jennette Fulda decided it was time to lose some weight. Actually, more like half her weight. At the time, Jennette weighed 372 pounds.

Jennette was not born fat. But, by fifth grade, her response to a school questionnaire asking "what would you change about your appearance" was "I would be thinner." Sound familiar?

Half-Assed is the captivating and incredibly honest story of Jennette's journey to get in shape, lose weight, and change her life. From the beginning-dusting off her never-used treadmill and steering clear of the donut shop-to the end with her goal weight in sight, Jennette wows readers with her determined persistence to shed pounds and the ability to maintain her ever-present sense of self.
