The Metabolic Typing Diet: Customize Your Diet to Your Own Unique Body Chemistry [Paperback] Review

The Metabolic Typing Diet: Customize Your Diet to Your Own Unique Body Chemistry [Paperback]Having read all of the negative reviews on metabolic typing diet, I would like to shed some light on the criticisms of the book. I have, off and on, been studying customized nutrition for the last decade of my life. There are two critical questions to ask with regard to diet:1) Is there a one-size-fits-all approach that works for everyone? And 2) If not, what is the best approach to customized nutrition?
To answer the first question one has to go no further than reading one of two books. Upon reading one of those books the open minded reader has no other rational conclusion to draw than the fact that everyone is unique and therefore there is no one-size-fits-all approach. The two books are Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston Price and Biochemical Individuality by Roger Williams.
The answer to the second question can be found by looking to see who has researched all of the available data on customized
nutrition and put together a program that the average person can follow.William Wolcott is by far the leading authority on
customized nutrition. He has read all of the recent discoveries and has also read what the pioneers in the field have written. In
addition, he studied under William Kelley (a pioneer in the field of customized nutrition). He has come up with the most
intelligible, comprehensive system available today for people to discover their metabolic type.
I am sure by now you are trying to reconcile the conflicting reviews on the book. Some criticize the book for lacking science or evidence for what is said in the book. Others say the book is excellent. I think a great deal of confusion lies in the assumption that his critics are making regarding the book's intended audience. His intended audience in the book is the masses of people in America. Those masses typically aren't very analytical or scientifically minded. If he had written the book to the scientifically minded he would have alienated a much larger audience, the average American. When I first read his book I was relieved to find that it was so easily understandable to a layperson. Yet when I dug deeper into William Wolcott and his organization Heathexcel I found the tremendous amount of science behind his work was second to none.
I highly recommend this book and believe the information in it to be absolutely life changing. If I had to choose this book or any other ten books combined on the subject of diet I would choose this book hands down. The book is worth every penny you will pay for it and more importantly it is worth the time you will invest reading it. There is more information on his web site healthexcel.com.

The Good Mood Diet: Feel Great While You Lose Weight [Bargain Price] (Hardcover) Review

The Good Mood Diet: Feel Great While You Lose Weight [Bargain Price]This book is not only a diet in meaning one that helps you lose weight, but also a book that teaches you the foods that you should eat to be healthy, happy, and satisfied with your eating and yourself. Within days of starting to eat the foods suggested. I found myself feeling happier, more awake and more energetic, and I am not restricting the foods that I enjoy!I was suprised at many of the foods that were suggested to eat every day.

I have had a hard time with not wanting to "diet" or restrict what I eat, and this helps retrain my thinking about what foods and fats are appropriate to eat to help me feel better!I suggest this book to anyone, whether or not they are looking to lose weight.

Product Description:
Dr. Kleiner is a leading nutrition authority on eating for strength who has put together a diet that has already been successfully tested in a Seattle weight-loss group and documented in a series by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. This book proves that you can choose healthy foods that both make you feel great and, when eaten according to the plan, help you lose weight. Most diets cause chemical changes in the brain that make the dieter feel depressed. The typical plan is often too low in calories. In THE GOOD MOOD DIET the participants eat feel-good foods with both ideal timing and ideal combinations--a balance of protein and fats to go with carbohydrates. Eating from a list of "feel-good foods," including fish, flax seed and eggs, and eliminating "feel-bad foods" including refined sugar, helps dieters feel better and lose weight. However, sweets and alcohol are not taboo--eating a bit of chocolate and drinking a glass of red wine a day is okay once you're two weeks into the diet.

The Fat Fallacy: The French Diet Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss [Paperback] Review

The Fat Fallacy: The French Diet Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss [Paperback]I first spotted The Fat Fallacy in a bookstore at a time when I was feeling frustrated at not being able to shed those last 10 pounds after months of exercising more regularly than I ever had before and trying to eat low-fat.I was intrigued by the idea that I could eat foods I love - cheese, full-fat premium ice cream, and chocolate - all while losing weight.

It sounded almost too good to be true, but I'd seen firsthand from a trip to Paris that the French ate very differently from us yet stayed thin. Also, many of Will Clower's comments made a lot of sense intuitively.I decided to give it a try, hoping for the best, but promising to stop if it caused me to gain weight instead.

I tossed out the skim milk, "low-fat" cheese, and processed foods containing high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and other artificial ingredients (you'd be amazed how many things include them!).To refill my pantry and refrigerator, I bought cream-top yogurt, whole milk, cheese, freshly baked french bread, good olive oil, high-quality dark chocolate, fresh vegetables, etc.I loved eating the new foods, found I didn't need to eat as much as before to feel satisfied, and was amazed at how quickly I saw the pounds start coming off.

Within just over a month of making the changes, I had lost the 10 pounds I'd been struggling with.Another 5 pounds that I wasn't even trying to lose came off in the following month, leaving me happily surprised to have dropped 3 clothing sizes.Wow!It's so wonderful to be able to enjoy food without guilt, and to be happy with my body at the same time!

I've since bought several copies of The Fat Fallacy to share with friends and family who've expressed interest.I'm always happy to be able to tell people about this book, as it encourages a healthy lifestyle rather than a "diet".It's definitely worth reading, and the recommendations seem so much healthier than some of today's trendier diets.Hope you'll read it and get as much out of it as I did!

Product Description:
Fat is not the enemy!Croissants. Brioche. Brie. To the American palate, these foods are fattening and oftentimes "forbidden." Yet they are the regular staples of the French diet. And though almost half of all Americans are overweight, France's obesity rate is at a low eight percent, while the French also boast fewer cases of stroke and heart disease. It's clear that America's obsession with low-fat and fat-free foods has ultimately failed.
In The Fat Fallacy, neuroscientist Will Clower explains precisely why the American diet sabotages weight-loss efforts and discusses how French eating habits can lead to better health and trimmer physiques. In this revolutionary work, Dr. Clower explains:

- How highly processed "fake foods" are the real culprit in the American diet
- Why it's not just what you eat but how you eat that makes a difference
- Easy ways to adopt the habits of the French to melt the pounds away, including
complete dinner recipes-with dessert!

Finally, here's a plan that cuts through the high-protein/low-fat debate. It's not a gimmicky diet program but a way of life that will invite Americans to enjoy food like never before-while being healthier and trimmer than they ever could have imagined.

The Feel-Good Diet: The Weight-Loss Plan That Boosts Serotonin, Improves Your Mood, and Keeps the Pounds Off for Good [Paperback] Review

The Feel-Good Diet: The Weight-Loss Plan That Boosts Serotonin, Improves Your Mood, and Keeps the Pounds Off for Good [Paperback]Everyone knows I am the biggest fan of Cheryle R. Hart and Mary Kay Grossman for writing The Insulin-Resistance Diet book which forever changed my life.

After losing 40+ pounds on my own and still having high cholesterol and still being 60 pounds overweight (not to mention feeling terrible) I needed answers. My OB/GYN found the problem and suggested The Insulin-Resistance Diet book by Hart and Grossman.I am now a total of 100 pounds lighter (50+ pounds thanks to the Insulin Resistance Diet), my cholesterol is normal and my Insulin levels are normal. I have kept the weight off for 2 years and couldn't love my life more.

My husband on the other hand had a much harder time over the Holidays and I decided The Feel Good Diet was what he needed to take off the weight. The two of us loved the book because it spoke to us from different angles. My husband is very analytical and likes to know how the clock works, I on the other hand, just want to know what time it is.The Feel Good Diet works because it gives you the "why" and "how" all in one book.

The biggest change for me was the quality of sleep I now enjoy after having my Evening Seretonin-Boosting Snack. The S'More Serotonin Snack is to die for or an evening watching a movie while snacking on popcorn made my husband very happy. The other significant change was our energy levels in the afternoon by incorporating the afternoon snack.Cheryle Hart and Mary Kay Grossman not only wrote books which allowed me to lose weight and changed my life but they educated me about my body and empowered me to be able to keep the weight off.To be able to live a life where you control your weight instead of the food controlling your weight is AMAZING!!!!

The Advanced Mediterranean Diet: Lose Weight, Feel Better, Live Longer [Perfect Paperback] Review

The Advanced Mediterranean Diet: Lose Weight, Feel Better, Live Longer [Perfect Paperback]The Advanced Mediterranean Diet is a great book and I can not recommend it highly enough for those looking for a change in the way they live their lives. The Advanced Mediterranean Diet is more than just a "diet" book, it provides detailed explanations of human physiology, explains in great detail the impact of different foods on the body. The Mediterranean diet is explained well, and the author does a fantastic job of highlighting the many benefits of it and how it can even reverse the effects of medical conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. The book also puts a heavy emphasis on the importance of exercise, and even gives you a variety of ideas to keep exercising from becoming boring and tedious. On the Dieting side of things, this book offers four different dieting plans based off gender, current weight and activity level, ultimately giving you a diet that will produce results without leaving you starving. On top of all of this, the website for the book is great and offers an opportunity for interaction with the author via Dr. Parker's blog, which is updated regularly. All in all, it seems as if Dr. Parker has gone to great lengths to make The Advanced Mediterranean Diet a refection of his passion for making healthy living in our hustle bustle world both easily manageable and enjoyable. Once again I cannot recommend this book enough!!! Kudos, Dr. Parker!

Product Description:
The author's goal is to help overweight people lose weight while eating Mediterranean-style, ultimately leading to better health and longevity. The traditional Mediterranean diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, olive oil, fish, judicious amounts of wine, with minimal saturated fats. Scientists in the mid-20th century found that this diet, coupled with an active lifestyle, was associated with longer life and less chronic disease. Over the last 10 years, nutrition researchers have identified which components of the Mediterranean diet, and in what amounts, lead to the observed health and longevity benefits. Dr. Steve Parker (M.D.), enhances the traditional Mediterranean diet by incorporating these latest scientific breakthroughs.
The book begins with a review of nutrition and physiology, then discusses the the consequences of overweight and obesity, and the benefits of exercise. Next is a review of psychological issues surrounding body weight, and determination of an individual's reasonable goal weight. After this foundation is laid, Dr. Parker explains the details of his weight-loss plan. Most diet books allow for only one or two levels of caloric intake. Here, four different eating plans are laid out: 1100, 1500, 1900, and 2300 calories. The recommended caloric intake is determined by the individual's sex and current weight.
This is not a low-fat or low-carbohydrate diet. The eating plan approximates the traditional Mediterranean diet by suggesting the optimal intake of fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, whole grains, dairy products, olive oil, meat, chicken, eggs, and fish. Wine is optional. Dieters choose from an extensive list of doctor-approved foods that are readily available at supermarkets. Easy recipes are provided but are optional. The author specifies how much of which nutrients confer the health and longevity benefits. For example, fish is in the traditional Mediterranean diet, but how much and what kind yield the health benefits? The author's clear answer: two servings per week of, preferably, cold-water fatty fish such as trout, salmon, or tuna.
After explaining how physical activity helps with weight loss and prevention of weight regain, Dr. Parker teaches even the most sedentary reader how to implement a mild-to-moderate exercise program. He also emphasizes the importance of physical activity for prevention of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, dementia, and heart attacks.
A chapter is devoted to adaptation of the program by people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Later chapters explain the pros and cons of weight-loss (bariatric) surgery and weight-loss pills and nutritional supplements. The last chapter discusses long-term weight control issues and prevention of weight regain. The appendix has a recommended reading list (bibliography), list of helpful Internet resources, and recipes. Two hundred specific scientific journal articles and books are listed as the basis for the author's opinions and recommendations. An index is provided.
