The Atkins Diet and Philosophy (Popular Culture and Philosophy) [Paperback] Review

The Atkins Diet and Philosophy [Paperback]Sixteen essays by contributors who add a dose of philosophical reflection into the Atkins diet controversy will appeal to both pro and con diet readers. They come from practitioners of the diet, those not on it, and those who want little to do with it. It's more philosophical observation than diet plan - but any interested in Atkins and philosophy alike will find here an intriguing ability to link philosophical thinking to modern culture.

Product Description:
The Atkins diet has transformed the lives of millions of people, revolutionizing grocery store shelves, restaurant menus, and dinner-table conversations. But there are questions beyond its efficacy and longevity. Is the Atkins diet a new wrinkle in capitalist exploitation or a twisted expression of negative body images? Is it a symbol of super-masculinity? Has the Atkins diet really been around for centuries under other names? Can it increase intelligence, or cause global warming and melt the polar ice caps? How does Atkins fit into Kant's conception of the moral life, or Rousseau's vision of a kinder, gentler human society? The Atkins Diet and Philosophy wittily explores these and other pressing questions in sixteen entertaining essays. Following the same fun, readable approach as earlier volumes in this series, this book uses philosophy to put the Atkins diet under the microscope, and uses the Atkins diet to teach vital philosophical lessons for life.

The Vanity Diet: Destroying The Weightrix (Volume 1) [Paperback] Review

The Vanity Diet: Destroying The Weightrix [Paperback]If what Greg says is correct, then there is a hidden force that prevents us from awakening to our true selves and it achieves this by keeping us addicted to something so powerful that hardly anyone realizes it's a drug. As you read The Vanity Diet you will follow the story of Ciborg Burns and how his search for the ultimate weight loss program takes him face to face with this force which he calls the Weightrix. Greg believes that most of the food that is available to us in our modern day world is simply not what nature intended for us to eat. I think it would be safe to say that the vast majority of people want to live healthier, happier lives but the Weightrix has so many traps and diversions for us like the idea that food has to taste good or that you have to exercise hard to have a fit body that it really takes a great effort and determination to fight it and defeat it. Many people are intellectually aware of this but they see it as an inevitable effect of man's modern ways, they can't grasp the idea that we are dealing with a force that feeds on our misery and disease which of course all you have to do is look around and you will see so many people struggling with obesity which in turns leads to many other health problems. However Greg believes and I happen to agree with him, that it is not by accident but by design. It'simpossible to fight an enemy when you can't even see it, let alone be able to defaeat it, therefore the first logical step would be to know who or what it is that you are fighting and once you know this the next thing would be to become aware of its weapons and tactics. This is why I believe Greg's concept of the Weightrix is revolutionary in the sense that it identifies this enemy and he gives you a weapon with which to rid it from your life.
